Not a chance. I didn't just get to this point in my life, and feel the way I feel today. NO WAY! I was the pudgy tomboy that loved to play sports with the guys, I always excelled at sports, but not really well liked by the mean girls. That being the case, BULLING was a normal thing for me in school. I was always picked on in class and during recess for being liked by the teacher, {teachers pet} or because the guys chose me on their teams, or because I did my homework, and didn't get in trouble. I was shy, didn't like looking people in the eye, afraid that it would draw attention, and I would have to fight in the girls bathroom.
That too became an issue, because I was so afraid to get beat up, I wouldn't go to the bathroom, causing me to have bladder infections, and issues, even in Jr. high, I hated changing out, since the girls would just barge into the showers and start to make fun of those of us who just wasn't like them. Besides those awkward moments, the list goes on. If finally got to the point that I just was so afraid and hated to go to school.
The teachers really didn't do anything about the BULLING, back than and the admin, did stupid things like, if a person DEFENDED THEMSELVES, they got detention too. I grew up not believing that adults especially those who are suppose to help, really did help. I basically lost faith in my parents and those around me for not empowering me or supporting me in moments that could have been really detrimental to a young woman's life.
My parents didn't go in and confront the teachers, about the issues, and I grew up feeling that if I would fight back I WOULD BE PUNISHED TOO. I'm not a fighter by nature when it comes to confrontational situations, but as I grew up, I realized that if I didn't fight for myself no one was going to do it for me.
When it was time for me to attend high school, I was just paralyzed with fear, since in the 80's the school I was to attend was just overwhelmed with gang related fighting issues, and I just didn't know where to begin to explain that. BUT WHAT WAS TRULY AMAZING WAS MY BODY DECIDED TO RETALIATE FOR ME. I started to break out in hives, have anxiety and refused to go to school. My mom, had to listen at this point and petitioned to get me a district acceptation to another school, and so I moved on.
That was the turning point in my life, I felt comfortable, SAFE, and most of all I found a part of me that was missing. THAT'S WHEN I MET HERB ISHIBASHI SR. THE OWNER OF PHYSIQUES GYM IN HILO HAWAII, Mr. Ishibashi, his ohana, and the guys at the gym taught me how to lift weights, the old school way. How to push past feeling scared, uncomfortable, and most of all HOW TO FACE MY INSECURITIES. Yes, I still had them, because my body was different, I looked different, I was never going to be the size 2 BARBIE, or cheerleader, not to mention I couldn't fit in the clothes for girls my age. AND MY FATHER, UNCLES & MOM, HAD AN IDEA OF WHAT A GIRL WAS SUPPOSE TO LOOK LIKE AND BE LIKE. {I was always teased about my weight, called Fat-so, my mom and aunts always talked about having a flat stomach and being a certain way. They'd say I had arms like legs and thunder thighs, by the soccer assistant coaches.}
What I learned by being in the GYM everyday, was I had a place that I could call my own. I was safe. I was appreciated. I was strong, I was accepted for me, and I was empowered no matter what life threw at me, I could handle it. Life is like lifting, you INHALE, AND YOU EXHALE, YOU WAIT FOR THAT MOMENT, AND YOU PUSH THROUGH IT, WITH FOCUS, AND TRUST THAT YOU WILL GET THROUGH IT, AND IF YOU NEED HELP, YOU GOT THOSE REALLY CARING PEOPLE THAT WILL ALWAYS HAVE YOUR BACK.
I will always be grateful for those long gym days, frenz met, lessons learned and most of all for being able to do what I love to do today. BECAUSE I TRULY BELIEVE, THAT IF THOSE THINGS DIDN'T HAPPEN TO ME, I WOULDN'T BE WHO I AM, AND HELPING PEOPLE WHO TRUST ME WITH THEIR HEALTH AND LIVES.
I was able to turn a negative, into a positive, BUT IT TOOK SOME TIME TO REALIZE THAT I HAD THE POWER ALL ALONG!
What I've learned about BULLING, is it's a painful thing on all levels, but just remember if you're reading this, that when a person BULLIES YOU, really inside they are so afraid themselves, so insecure themselves, so HURT themselves, for whatever reasons that you will never know, that they retaliate at life, and you're just the one in front of them pushing at their wounded buttons. This is not an excuse for them. it's a statement for you to see and know that there's more going on and that the ISSUES IS NOT YOU. IT'S IN THEM.

YOU KNOW YOU GOTTA EXERCISE, you know that don't you??? Yep, sure you do! And the #1 comment every women makes is, "I JUST DON'T GOT THE TIME, after the kids, the house, the dog, cat and everything in between, I'm pooped!"
YOU DO HAVE THE TIME! YOU'RE JUST NOT SCHEDULING EXERCISE INTO YOUR WEEKLY TO DO LIST!
That being the case you're CHEATING on the CEO of your ohana.
So RIGHT NOW, get out your organizer, your phone, or whatever you write your weekly appointments on, and start CHARTING OUT A PLAN TO INCLUDE 3 DAYS A WEEK OF 45-60 MINUTES INCREMENTS OF EXERCISE, that includes RESISTANCE TRAINING, CARDIO, and MINDFUL STRETCHING. {ZUMBA, YOGA, WEIGHTS alone is just not enough, if you want to see WHOLE BODY TRANSFORMATION, you have to mix it up.}

1) Make sure to drink lots of water and rehydrate yourself.
2) Choose light easy to digest foods today, since you probably over
did it yesterday.
3) To help with the bloating, drink some GINGER, MINT, or
CHAMOMILE TEA. Iced or hot, is up to you, but try to stay away
from sweeteners, it will only add to inflammation and bloat.
4) Eat a few spears of PAPAYA drizzled with LEMON, chilled will help
neutralize stomach acids, and help speed up digestion.
5) Yogurt, can also help ease stomach upset, just make sure it's
plain, no extra sugars needed.
5) WALKING, go take a nice easy stroll in the shade, relax and let
your body enjoy the weekend. Moving helps to kick start
digestion and the elimination process.

Here's the deal, everyday we put our selves through our daily paces, get up, get ready, take the kids to school, go to work, pick up the kids, go to the market, do the laundry, kids homework, make dinner, and that's just the half of it. I'm not going to SUGAR COAT IT FOR YOU, there's no getting away from our RESPONSIBILITIES, but how we EDUCATE ourselves regarding how we handle different types of stressors, makes a world of difference. Women, it's time to realize we've been doing it backwards for way too long.
IT'S TIME TO PUT YOURSELF IN THE FOREFRONT and start to realize and accept that you are the NUMBER ONE INVESTMENT, BECAUSE WITHOUT YOU, THERE IS NOT GETTING ANY OF THESE THINGS DONE, and your kids, won't get the message that what you do matter. By putting yourself first, you start to realize YOUR WORTH, <3 and start to manifest your SOUL'S DESIRE.
So, if you think SOUL FITNESS HAWAII is only about EXERCISE & SWEAT, YOU'RE SO WRONG, I'm about the WHOLE WOMAN & YOUR WORTH. Sundays, is all about MIND, BODY & SOUL as one complete woman. When we divide it up, it don't work. We have to unify ourselves to operate in a WHOLENESS KIND OF WAY.
THE MIND HAS TO CONNECT WITH THE HEART, AND THE HEART HAS TO OPEN TO THE SOUL, ONLY THAN CAN PASSION HAPPEN!
So for today, make a note to self "TODAY IS THE FIRST INVESTMENT I MAKE TO LOVING MYSELF FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE." Remember you're not only doing this for you, REALLY, in hindsight you are doing it for the LOVE OF ALL.

Women, it's time to reassess your views on being that size 6 and being HEALTHY. One thing I see everyday in my personal training clients as well as my LIFT TO THRIVE SENIORS especially the WOMEN, is this on going belief that "SKINNY IS HEALTHY, AND THICK IS FAT AND UNHEALTHY." But this is just not true.
There's a huge misconception that is not limited to teens or women ages 20-45, personally I found there's NO AGE LIMITED ON THE SUBJECT. But the older you get, the more you need to realize that lifting weights, doing functional fitness training, fueling your body with healthy foods, healthy doses of water to keep your body hydrated and REST, IS THE FOUNDATION THAT WILL KEEP YOU NOT ONLY ALIVE, BUT HEALTHY TO ENJOY YOUR LIFE. Because to me, what's the sense of LIVING A LONG LIFE, if you're PLAGUED WITH CHRONIC ILLNESS AND DEPENDENT ON THOSE YOU LOVE, DUE TO THE CHOICE OF NOT TAKING CARE OF YOUR HEALTH, MIND, BODY SOUL.
“Strong” enhances your life and makes you more functionally fit and capable. “Skinny,” if it comes from calorie restriction, under-nutrition and too much aerobic exercise, makes you weaker and less able to do your daily activities without feeling fatigued. No matter how many women I speak to everyday, it's the SAME BELIEF SYSTEM that continues to dominate the conversation around weight loss, emotional eating, eating disorders, daily life choices, and the list goes on. It never stops, the myths, FALSE INFORMATION TOOTED AS MEDICAL FACTS BY THE COMPANIES MAKING MILLIONS ON PEOPLE WHO CONTINUE TO BELIEVE that by not eating, or cutting down on their food consumption, will actually SOLVE THEIR PROBLEMS.... this is just not TRUE. It's the belief systems that we've been programed to buy into that has caused so many problems today, and it's not just in TEENS, OR WOMAN, MEN HAVE THE SAME ISSUES AS WELL.
In many cases people can't even identify that they have an eating disorder, or lets put it another way, a very distorted relationship with FOOD. From BODYBUILDERS, ATHLETES, TEENS TO YOU AND ME.... trust me, everyone is different in it's own way, but the common denominator is that at some point the OBSESSION THAT WE HAVE WITH EATING OR NOT EATING IS NOT ABOUT THE FOOD ITS SELF, BUT RATHER OUR BELIEF SYSTEMS THAT LEADS TO OUR EMOTIONAL SELF MEDICATING WITH FOOD. {this can be either with starving one's self or over eating, both extremes have it's root in the EMOTIONAL CENTERS OF THE BODY/MIND/SOUL CONNECTION.}
Like I said, you may not notice it, but it is there. With the pressures of being and looking a certain way, as the focus of our materialistic society, the quick fix of popping a PILL, to lose weight, or BURN FAT, or push it faster, harder, longer is the where the LINES BLUR, IT STARTS AS A SIMPLE I WANT TO IMPROVE MY LIFE, LOOK BETTER, BE BETTER, AND SO ON, and than it can escalate into a whole different direction, DUE TO THE UNDER LINING EMOTIONAL ISSUES. TRUST ME IT'S ALWAYS AN INNER TURMOIL THAT CAUSES THE disorder with food. IT IS NOT FOOD IT'S SELF. THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH FOOD, IT'S OUR INNER EMOTIONS THAT DRIVE HOW WE RELATE TO FOOD. ~PK

Are you an everyday addicted I gotta workout for 90 minutes or more kind of gal?
Are you a I can't eat this, I can't eat that, I can't drink this, I can't drink that kind of gal?
Are you a I'm going to push myself even if it hurts kind of gal?
Are you a oh hell, my cramps are bad, but the gyms calling kind of gal?
Are you a I look fat, ugly, not perfect kind of gal?
Well if you said YES to anyone or all of these, you're heading for a possible ISSUE CALLED OVERUSE INJURY!!!
Like all things in life it's called BALANCE. When we don't listen to our body's informational system, we create IMBALANCE. That informational system is what triggers the most common messenger PAIN!!! You may not think that what I've listed above has anything to do with overuse injures, but they do. A lot of deeper issues are over looked by the common symptoms like aches and pains, tiredness, inflammation, and the list goes on.
For WOMEN, especially during our monthly menstrual cycle we don't take the time to lighten up, take some rest time for our bodies to transition normally in it's cleansing and hormonal cycle. WE push toooooooooooooooooo much, thinking NO PAIN, NO GAIN, keep going, multitask, etc.... BUT THESE ARE THE VERY TRIGGERS that will cause OVERUSE INJURIES.
Besides the list above, many common mistakes is to push through the pain. Fight to get to the top, more more more, heavier, more reps, add more miles, all of these are not necessarily bad, but when done correctly, with the right periodization program, including REST, RECUPERATION, PROPER NUTRITION, AND MAY BE THE MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL THE RIGHT HEALTHY MINDSET OVERUSE INJURIES CAN BE AVOIDED.
Here's the deal. "When we exercise, we are putting our bodies in a state of controlled stress, by the types of workouts or sports we are training and doing. By training in a specific way we can help our body adapt to the type of stress we are inflecting upon it. This can also help us to adapt better to our life's environmental stressors, but when the stressors we are placing on the body becomes way too much, the overload creates immune system malfunctions, when this happens it opens a whole possibility of health problems.

Here's the deal, everyone can find an excuse for doing or not doing something in their lives. It's human nature to procrastinate on the things we don't want to do, or are told we should or have to do. I totally understand. BUT, the bare bones truth is, YOU CAN'T KEEP LYING TO YOURSELF. sooner or later it will catch up to you, and than you'll go into the self punishment mode which will only make things worst. STOP THE VICIOUS CYCLE AND TAKE STOCK OF YOUR LIFE NOW. You're probably wondering what the hell is she yakking about now???
I'm talking to you, YOU, the one that keeps putting off your well being for what you believe is beneficial for everyone else., your kids, your spouses, your frenz, your boss, work, the dog, cat, the charity work, whatever.... human nature is to find whatever excuse it is to not do what we know we should to make our lives better. There's many reasons for that, and I totally get it. But if you don't know where to start, what to do, or are afraid, hey, that's only natural too. Ask for help... life is about new experiences and learning.
But here's the low down on that painful truth, if you keep saying you don't have time to get healthy, eat right because it's too expensive, the classes are at the wrong time, the gym is too busy, I don't like the people there, it's not my thing, a trainer is way too expensive for me to afford, or better yet my kids are more important and their games are at the same time, so I just can't do it....Well sister, think of this, DO YOU WANT TO BE AROUND TO SEE YOUR KIDS GROW UP, HAVE HAPPY LIVES, HAVE KIDS OF THEIR OWN??? DO YOU WANT TO LIVE INTO YOUR 90S, BEING INDEPENDENT AND DRIVING YOURSELF AROUND? DO YOU WANT TO STILL HAVE GOOD HEALTHY SEX YOUR LIFE? DO YOU WANT TO AGE GRACEFULLY WITH A HEALTHY GLOW????
Well than, you better get cracking.... time waits for NO ONE, keep using that excuse, and you're going to fine yourself running out of time. If not, the body stays the same, like all exercising, increase movement, momentum, rate, challenges the body, to improve it's organs, bones, blood flow, muscle growth, and don't forget the BRAIN. The BRAIN, loves the challenge, get with the PROGRAM AND START MOVING, AND YOUR BRAIN WILL START TO REMEMBER MORE efficiently, your recall will be faster. You'll have a more positive outlook of life. Less depression, anxiety, more energy, and your happy hormones will start to perk up, making you feel more ALIVE.

It's in these moments, my inner voice just can't shut up. I totally understand where a lot of you are coming from. Really I do, I'm busy too. Many of you think, just because I'm a trainer, I live at the gym. This is so not TRUE. I actually have another job, a family that depends on me and I am a care provider for my disabled husband. So yea, I get it. I also can attest to the motivations of having to get healthy, I, myself was very ill a few years ago, and being athletic all my life, I knew I had to get off my ASS, NO MATTER WHAT IT TOOK AND GET MYSELF MOVING, EATING ACCORDING TO MY BODIES DEMANDS, AND DETOXING FROM UNHEALTHY PEOPLE.
So, when you are basically asking me for my advice, saying you want help, but at the same time shooting down every solution I'm offering you regarding your dilemma, the POINT IS, YOU CAN LIE TO YOURSELF, BUT PLEASE DON'T WASTE MY TIME.

For those of you who just hit the gym, no warm up on cardio for even 5 minutes and start stretching before your workout is asking for serious issues. First you shouldn't ever stretch cold, ever, your muscles won't be happy with you. Second, don't ever stretch before a heavy lifting session, you can create muscle weakness and fatigue. Warm up at least 5-10 minutes if you want to stretch and go easy, than work out, if that's what you like doing. I prefer to do a really nice 10 minute cool down stretch session to give my body a release from all the lactic acids build up in my muscles and to get my heart and breath back down to normal, helping me to relax and may be even prevent DOMs {Delayed On Set Muscle Soreness} Everyone has their opinion on the subject, but if you don't do any type of stretching you are missing out on so much healthy benefits, from range of movement, relaxation, mind-body connection, pain prevention, and just feeling good in your own skin. Trying a yoga class may also help you with your pain management if you have injuries, but ask your physician first before trying any type of exercise program if you have preexisting medical conditions to be safe. If you're new to working out get informed first, before just trying something new, to prevent unnecessary injuries.

Yep, that's how it is sometimes, when the things you dream of doing don't resonate to the one's in your life. Sometimes frenz, business associates, loved ones, don't really get why you're doing what you do. Sometimes they feel that what you're doing is not worth the money, time or effort. Hell, sometimes they feel you just shouldn't do it because of your age, being a woman, a mother or a wife. And sometimes they are to dam jealous, intimidated and afraid of you to support what you're doing, because deep down inside, what you're doing is PUSHING THEIR DAM BUTTONS, to the point that everything you do to succeed makes them painfully aware they're not doing it for themselves. Like that's your problem.
I say DO IT ANYWAY, DO IT HARDER, AND PUSH YOURSELF TO THE POINT THAT YOU REACH AND INCINERATE YOUR GOALS.
It's not your concern how they feel. Sure if it's your spouse, or ohana, but really, if they love you for you, they'll support you for you, knowing it makes you happy. If not well than may be you need to reassess your relationships.
As far as coworkers, business associates etc, may be it's showing you that you deserve bigger and better, and it's time to give yourself the promotion you deserve by moving on and finding better support. In life it goes both ways, when we do what we love, and surround ourselves with people who love what we do and see the vision, amazing things happen. Find people that deserve you for you, if not leave'm behind. No support means, they ain't on your team.
BE THE TEAM LEADER OF YOUR LIFE, don't be the seat warmer.

Exercising for 45 minutes gives you a high, that's why it's been known to help with depression, anxiety and stress. Ready to jump out the door as soon as your alarm clock rings, that's me sometimes. So I can really understand the go go go life style, but also having the desire to get my blood pumping and my energy revving.
There's so many really good exercises to choose from, but my second go to choice is a stiff or bent leg dead lift with a shoulder press. I love this all in one exercise due to it's everyday useable functional purpose. Done correctly it works the entire body, strengthening and aiding range of movement, as well getting chi circulated.
Home: if you're at home and you've got free weights than you're good to go. If you don't have any types of exercise equipment, just grab a broom stick and use it like you'd use a barbell, if you don't have one, your second option is to get 2 large cans of food and use them as you would dumbbells, one in each hand.
Gym: I love both styles of dead lifts with dumbbells or barbells, it's really your choice, and what works for you.
Time: 5-10 minutes
Reps: 12-15
Sets: 2-3
Equipment : Exercise Body Bar {weighted bar from 20-40lbs}
Dumbbells 10-20lbs Barbell 25lbs & up , don't have these improvise with broom & canned foods.
Technique: Simple dumbbell dead lifts: Stand with your feet shoulder width apart and with your dumbbells in each hand, slowly hinge forward at the hips, keeping your back flat and head & neck forward, Keeping the weights close to your body lower them to just below your knees, no more, and return to standing position. once you've gotten to the standing position, keeping your arms to your side of your body and bend your elbows and push in one fluid motion and press weights up and towards your head, than return to start position. Doing multiple plane techniques is just one way to work different parts of the body in short periods of time.
